Now Playing Just Got Smarter

The Now Playing screen just became more powerful — without becoming more complicated. With the new grab handle, users can instantly change sources, group rooms, or switch rooms directly from Now Playing using a simple pull-down gesture or a quick tap on the Room/Source name. The interface expands in three intuitive steps — none, sources, and sources plus rooms — giving fast access to exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. Whether you’re moving music to another room, creating an ad-hoc party group, or switching sources on the fly, everything happens seamlessly in one place, keeping the focus where it belongs: on the music.

Introducing the New Grab Handle for Sources & Rooms

The Now Playing screen is where users spend most of their time — so we made it more powerful without making it more complicated.

You’ll now see a subtle grab handle just below the App header. It provides fast access to:

  • Source selection
  • Ad-hoc room grouping
  • Room switching (optional)

All without leaving Now Playing.

How It Works

The grab handle has three states:

  1. Collapsed – Standard Now Playing view
  2. Sources Visible – Shows the selected source and available sources
  3. Sources + Rooms Visible – Full control panel

You can either:

  • Pull down on the grab handle
    or
  • Tap the Room / Source name to step through the views

Fully Extended View (What You’re Seeing Above)

In the screenshot:

  • The grab handle is fully extended
  • Sources are displayed across the top
  • Rooms are displayed beneath them
  • The current rooms (Office and Wine Room) are grouped

This gives you immediate control over where music plays and what source is active.

Changing Sources (Step 1)

Pull down slightly to reveal Sources.

You’ll see:

  • The currently active source (e.g., David’s Player)
  • Other available sources (Jodi Player, Guest Player, Sonos, etc.)

Simply tap a source to switch instantly for the current room.

Example

Music is playing in the Office from David’s Spotify.
Tap Guest Player to immediately switch the Office to that source.

No extra navigation. No back buttons.

Grouping Rooms (Default Behavior)

Pull down further and Rooms appear.

By default, the Now Playing screen is configured to Group Rooms.

You can:

  • Select additional rooms (Porch, Wine Room, Cabana + Porch, etc.)
  • Remove rooms from the group
  • Create instant ad-hoc party zones

Example: Quick Multi-Room Music

You’re playing music in the Office.

Pull down → Select:

  • Porch
  • Wine Room

Now those rooms are grouped with the Office.

Music plays everywhere you selected.

Moving Music Between Rooms

Here’s a powerful shortcut:

  1. Add a second room
  2. Deselect the current room

The music moves to the new room — and Now Playing automatically switches to that room.

This makes relocating music effortless.

Switching Rooms Instead of Grouping

In MENU > Settings > App, you’ll find the option:

Switch Rooms or Group Rooms?

If set to Switch Rooms, the room list allows you to:

  • Change which room Now Playing is controlling
  • Without creating a group

Perfect for users who move room to room frequently.

User-Level Control

In MENU > Settings > User Profile > Settings

You can enable or disable:

  • Changing Sources from Now Playing
  • Changing Rooms
  • Grouping Rooms

If these settings are all disabled then the grab handle is hidden entirely

This allows dealers or power users to tailor the experience for simplicity or control.

Why This Matters

The Now Playing screen is no longer just informational.

It’s operational.

With one smooth gesture, users can:

  • Change sources
  • Group rooms
  • Move music
  • Switch rooms
  • Do it all instantly

It’s faster, more intuitive, and keeps everything centered around the music.
