Overview
On rare occasions, it may be necessary to restore your CasaTunes music server back to the original factory settings.
Before proceeding, you must contact CasaTunes Technical Support to obtain the proper download link for your music server image, and any other information that maybe required, to ensure the process of re-imaging your music server is successful.
Requirements
To reset your CasaTunes music server requires:
- 1 x 16GB USB Flash Drive formatted using FAT32 (used to store the Clonezilla Live bootable image)
- 1 x 32GB USB Flash Drive formatted using NTFS (used to store the CasaTunes music server files)
- A Windows PC with a minimum of 500GB of free storage available
- A monitor, mouse and keyboard connected to your CasaTunes music server
- Internet Access
Summary of steps
The following steps are required to perform a factory reset:
- Step 1: Get/Make a backup copy of your CasaTunes configuration
- Step 2: Format your CasaTunes Image USB Flash drive, download and copy image files
- Step 3: Format and install Clonezilla Live on your Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 4: Boot up from your Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 5: Run Clonezilla Live and restore the CasaTunes image files
- Step 6: Download the latest CasaTunes release
- Step 7: Restore your CasaTunes configuration
- Step 8: Activate Windows License, if necessary
Format your CasaTunes Image USB Flash drive
- Step 1: Plug the USB drive you will use to store the CasaTunes Image in to your CasaTunes music or another PC (we will refer to this drive as the CasaTunes USB drive)
- Step 2: Open File Explorer and select the CasaTunes USB drive
- Step 3: Right click on the CasaTunes USB drive and select Format...
- Step 4: Set the NTFS as the File system and select 4096 as the Allocation unit size (see below)
- Step 5: Click Start to format the CasaTunes USB drive
- Step 6: Download the CasaTunes image zip file to your Windows PC. Contact Technical Support for the link to this image file.
- Step 7: Unzip the contents of the CasaTunes image zip file
- Step 8: Copy the folder, and the contents of the folder (the unzipped files), into the root folder of the CasaTunes USB drive. Clonezilla searches the root of the USB drive for the folder to process.
- Step 9: Once all the files have been copied, safely unplug and remove the CasaTunes USB drive. Later, you will be prompted to plug this CasaTunes USB drive into your CasaTunes music server
Format and install Clonezilla Live on your Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 1: Plug in the USB drive you will use to store Clonezilla Live on your CasaTunes music or another PC (we will refer to this drive as the Clonezilla USB drive)
- Step 2: Open File Explorer and select the Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 3: Right click on the Clonezilla USB drive and select Format...
- Step 4: Set the FAT32 (Default) as the File system and select Default allocation size (see below)
- Step 5: Click Start to format the Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 6: Open http://clonezilla.org in a browser. Select Download from the menu on the left
- Step 7: Click the link alternative stable - YYYYMMDD-zesty Live release (where YYYYMMDD is the date of latest stable release)
- Step 8: Select amd64, zip, and auto for the CPU architecture, file type, and repository (see below)
- Step 9: Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file and copy these contents to the root of your Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 10: In File Explorer browse the root of your Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 11: Right click in the root folder of your Clonezilla USB drive and select New... then Shortcut
- Step 12: When prompted type the location of the item in the create shortcut wizard, browse your Clonezilla USB drive and select makeboot.bat in the utils\win32 folder, since this is the version of Windows your CasaTunes music server uses.
- Step 13: Click Next and when prompted to type a name for this shortcut, enter makeboot.bat
- Step 14: Right click on the newly created makeboot.bat shortcut and select Properties, then Advanced and the check the option to Run As Administrator
Booting up off of the Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 1: Power down your CasaTunes music server
- Step 2: Plug in the Clonezilla USB drive on your CasaTunes music server (if you downloaded Clonezilla Live using a different PC)
- Step 3: Power on your CasaTunes music server and press the F11 key repeatedly until you are presented with the option to select which device to boot off
- Step 4: Choose the UEFI version of the Clonezilla USB drive
- Step 5: Select the following options
Running Clonezilla Live
- Step 1: Select VGA 800 x 600
- Step 3: Select Don't touch keymap
- Step 4: Select Start Clonezilla
- Step 5: Select to work with disks
- Step 6: Select to use a local device
- Step 7: Plug in the CasaTunes USB drive in to your CasaTunes music server
- Step 8: Wait for 10 seconds, then press <Enter>
- Step 9: Press Ctrl-C to exit this window
- Step 10: Select the CasaTunes USB drive
- Step 11: Select <ABORT> and then use the right arrow key to move to the <Done> option and press the <Enter> key
- Step 12: Press <Enter> to continue
- Step 13: Select to use the beginner mode (and accept the default options)
- Step 14: Select to restore an image to the local disc
- Step 15: Select the disc on the CasaTunes music server where you want to restore the image to
- Step 16: Select the option to skip checking the image before restoring
- Step 17: Choose to reboot/shutdown music server when finished
- Step 18: Press <Enter> to continue
- Step 19: You are now prompted (twice) to make sure you want to overwrite the destination disc. Select y to continue
- Step 20: Select y to continue
- Step 21: Press <Enter> to continue and now the cloning process starts. This can take a couple of hours.
- Step 22: Select the Poweroff option when prompted
- Step 23: Remove both USB drives when prompted, and press <ENTER> to continue
- Step 24: Congratulations you have restored your CasaTunes music server OS image to the factory image
Download the latest CasaTunes release
- Step 1: Power up your CasaTunes music server
- Step 2: In the browser, enter the following url to download the latest version of CasaTunes: http://casatunes-public.s3.amazonaws.com/applications/release5/setup.exe
Restore your configuration
- Step 1: Stop CasaTunes using CasaSetup, and wait for CasaTunes to stop
- Step 2: Copy the attached files in your CasaTunes Backup email to the \\CasaServer\CasaRecover volume (or follow the instructions in the backup email)
- Step 3: Restart CasaTunes using CasaSetup
Activate Windows License
- Step 1: Since you have not changed your CasaTunes music server hardware, you typically will not have to re-activate your Windows license.
- Step 2: However, if you do need to re-activate your Windows license, your Windows License information is typically located on the bottom of your CasaTunes music server
