Apple’s iOS 14.5 sports a new feature that will benefit many Spotify CasaTunes users.

New in iOS 14.5 is an option to configure your preferred music service to use with Siri.  Several different music services are supported, including Spotify.  Once you have configured Spotify as your default music service, and you are using Spotify in a CasaTunes room, you can then use Siri to control the music in the room.

For example, you can say:

“Hey Siri, play Norah Jones”

“Hey Siri, skip to next track”

“Hey Siri, play Classic Acoustic”

"Hey Siri, stop"

"Hey Siri, play"

And Siri will start playing Norah Jones on Spotify, skip to the next track, play the Spotify playlist "Classic Acoustics", stop the music and resume playback, respectively.

Setup

  1. Update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 14.5 or later
  2. Make sure you have installed the latest Spotify (or other music service) App on your iOS device
  3. Ask Siri to play music, for example “Hey Siri, play Norah Jones”
  4. Siri will prompt you to select the music App to use as your default music service with Siri
  5. Choose the music service App you want to use with Siri
  6. Use the Spotify App to start playing music in a CasaTunes room
  7. Now issue your Siri commands
