Two android issues

We run Casa Tunes from our android phones.  We have five phones total, one LG Revolution, three Motorola Droids, and one Motorola Bionic.  All experience the same two issue:

1)  When we open the CasaTunes app, it often takes a long time (20-40 seconds, occasionally even longer) to connect to the server.

2)  Sometimes the app is slow to respond once things are up and running (20 seconds), and we get periodic force closes.

We get by OK, but sometimes it is easier to walk over to the server closet and manage music from the server than it is to use the android app, which is not ideal.

Hello Kelby,

That is definitely not normal behavior.
I will get in touch with you via private mail to trouble shoot this problem.
In the meantime, here are some things to check (if you are uncomfortable with doing any of the following, we can help):

o Make sure you have a clear WiFi channel. In my own home, I found that I was getting interference from a next door neighbor’s strong signal. Try going into your WiFi AP, change the channel assignment from Auto to Manual and set it to the lowest channel, then the middle channel and then the highest channel to see if any of them work better. In the US, those channels are 1, 6 and 11. The channels in between actually overlap adjacent channels, so it is best to just use those three choices. There is an excellent android app, called “WiFi Analyzer” by farproc, that shows you the signals in your home. Just download the app to one of your phones, turn on the phone’s wifi and run the app. You will see all the WiFi Access Points in the area and yours should be strong and at least 20db above any others.

o Make sure you have the latest version of CasaTunes on your music server. The latest can be found at http://www.CasaTunes.com/downloads.

Kelby,
I sent a couple of emails and did not get a response. Could you send an email to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)?
I have a special test version of our Android phone app that might help me zero in on your problem. Take the phone that is causing the most problems and uninstall CasaTunes. Then, go to the Market and search for “test version of CasaTunes”. Install this version and run it for at least 5 minutes, going to select music, selecting songs, etc. Next, while in the Now Playing screen, click on the Android search button. This will send me some data. Do this again when you see things running very slowly. This version should run fine, by the way, if you want to keep it on the phone until we update to a new version.
Also, when you click the search button, you can back out of the search or do an actual search. Either way, I will get the data.
Just so you know, the only data that is sent is zone info, source info, song info and some timings. No personal data will be sent.

Hi Kim,
Thanks for your responsiveness.  I have installed the teat software and used it for a couple weeks.  Let me know how I get it to send you the data.

I just reread your post.  I’ll run the search function tonight.
