I run russound 2 of the CAM6’s (I think that’s what it’s called),  I have 6 inputs, and 12 zones..  I Use Russound keypads in Rooms, some rooms are sources like living room, games room and Casatunes player as a source, controlled via serial cable..  it totally ROCKS ...  been using it for 2 years..

Here’s the deal..  6 input zones (on my russounds) are just not enough inputs..  I really want to be able to source more rooms/etc..

Can I add a CasaTunes audio card to my config, perhaps 3 or 4 more input zones into this..  kinda daisy chain the input that the Casatunes player uses, to be the output from a Casatunes audio card ?

I realize the Russound keypad won’t see more than 6 sources,  but if Im using my Catasunes UI, could I have say 6 + 4 more input sources to select from ?

smile

thoughts ?

Sorry. I need a little more clarification before I can answer.
Do you want to add more rooms? Or do you want to be able to play more sources in the 12 rooms you have?
It is possible with CasaTunes (without using our XLi card) to supply a total of 6 PC music sources (requires a minimum of two 5.1 sound cards, one of which can be the on-board audio from the computers motherboard) to the Russound. Since the Russound can’t switch more than 6 inputs I don’t see what you could do to go beyond the 6.
The other alternative is to replace the two Russounds with one XLe and two XLa amplifiers. Then you could have up to 9 sources. All 9 can be configured to be PC based music sources.

Hi

Yes, I want to have more than 6 sources, which is more than the Russound supports..  The idea I had was that for a Source on The Russound (eg: port 1) I could point to one of your multi source cards..  And then your UI would allow me to Switch to that Port, and then the secondary source..

eg: List 9 Sources..  2-6 are standard Russound Sources..  7,8,9 are plugged into port 1.. and when selecting 7, 8 or 9.. it changes the source on the card + moves to port 1 on the russound..

Kinda “daisy chaining”

OK. That is sort of what I thought you were getting at.
You could do this, but the CasaTunes interface would only control the XLe. We only control one controller, which is determined in CasaTunes Setup. So, if you purchase the XLe, it would be the controller you would pick in Setup (actually, this is done automatically in the case of the XLi and XLe). Then you cannot control the Russound with CasaTunes.
If you do this, there are a couple of things you should remember:
1. Set all the outputs to always be at sound output level of 70, with flat frequency response. This gives you a nice strong, clean, signal to the Russound inputs and then you would use the Russound controls to control the room volumes, treble, bass, etc.
2. To get 9 sources, you would need the XLe and have it running on Vista or 7. You can get a total of 9 “internal sources” by plugging motherboard audio into the XLe’s “external inputs.
3. You will not be able to control the Russound using CasaTunes, even for the ports that are set up like your existing system (2-6).
4. Rooms listening to Port 1 will all have to listen to the same CasaTunes source. In other words, if you chose to listen to source 8 using port 1 in one room, any other rooms that are listening to port 1 will have to listen to source 8. So, you can still only listen to a maximum of 6 ports throughout the house.

I think the best bet is to replace the Russound with the XLe. You could use the Russound as an amplifier for the first 6 rooms by having port 1 go to room 1, port 2 to room2, etc, for the first 6 rooms and you would need an additional amplifier for rooms beyond 6 rooms (hope I am making sense). Even this is not perfect, since you could have volume control issues and power on/off issues trying to use the Russound as an amplifier.
