XLi - “IR Out”?

So, I’m building an HTPC that will use the XLi card and CasaTunes software to be the music server, as part of a larger A/V system, all of which will operate off of IR remote control. In addition to standard IR control of exposed components like TV, Cable Box and the HTPC, the system includes remote IR triggered amps, several IR remote emitters/“blasters” etc.

I understand you have a partnership with BitWise for the use of their RS232/IR control/interface boxes and it seems (although it is murky) that you may have a very abbreviated list of some receivers and tuners or which you may have IR codes available for use with the XLi card.  I’m wondering if the “IR Out” on the CasaTunes XLi card can simply have a standard IR emitter plugged into it and be programmed to emit a series of IR commands.

I assume that is possible/what the IR Out is intended for, correct?

If so, further, is the appearance correct, that you do not have a deep table of IR codes for a whole host of various A/V gear to be controlled by the CasaTunes XLi card?

And if both the above are true, can you help me - is there some source for getting the IR codes?  Some way to have the system “learn” them, from the proper remote?  Or, some way to program them, in the CasaTunes software?

Thanks.

Hello Knife,
The IR output on the XLi card is not implemented. To control IR devices, you will need to use the BitWise device.
In addition to BitWise control, we do have the ability to control other devices using RS232 and via the network (IP). For example, you can connect zone outputs of the XLi to inputs in home theater receivers and CasaTunes will automatically switch the supported receivers to the correct source input and adjust the power and volume, without the need for the BitWise box, all through your local network. We also control some tuners right out of the box (Onkyo, Russound, Nuvo, etc).
This can be complicated and we recommend purchasing the XLi from one of our dealers. If you decide to take on the task yourself, we have a couple of guides at http://www.CasaTunes.com/guides.
In particular, look for:
o A/V Receiver Integration
o Serial and Serial Over IP Guide
o Use BitWise to Control Non-CasaTunes Sources and Integrate with AV Receivers
