As the title says when I am in the CasaTunes app the wifi will turn off.  I can go to settings and choose my wifi, reconnect then open CasaTunes use the app for a few seconds then it will turn off again or it might work for a while but be really slow to react to any inputs.  This is happening on my iPhone 4 and iPad 1 both running 4.2.1.  I can get around this issue on my phone by going through my DNS which will control through the 3g on my phone albeit a little slow but my iPad is wifi only so no joy.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I have also done some testing on my iPhone 3GS and it works very well and it is on the same firmware.

No, we have not had similar reports.  What is the make & model of the WiFi router you are you using?  Is it enabled for multicasting?

The router is a Motorola AP7131, I will check the multicasting set up but since it works with the 3GS and from my laptop I would think it is ok.

The Motorola doesn’t have much in the way of settings for multicast except under QOS for voice prioritization which is turned off

Kevin, I am not sure why this is happening.  I believe the main difference between the iPad/iphone4 and the iphone3 is support for 802.11n.  You might want to try selecting a non 802.11n SSID (if your router supports multiple networks) just to see if the issue is related to an 802.11n issue.  Also make sure the router firmware is upgraded to the latest revision as i believe this spec is still being drafted or was recently finalized.

The router has the latest firmware and I just turned the router to BG only with no improvements.  Today I haven’t been kicked off the wifi by the app but once and both the i4 and iPad are really slow to react to inputs i.e. if I press select music on the phone it takes 17 seconds before the page changes and about 15 seconds for the iPad.  Volume change delay is about 5 seconds on both.  My 3GS and now I have been testing an iPod 4th gen are instant.

A note on the iPad when it is kicked off the wifi it loses all the settings and I have to put in my passcode again to get back on.  This has happened before on the iPad a long time ago but these instances are definitely connected to using the CasaTunes app.

Another thing I have seen with some Android devices is that they can be sensitive to which type of wireless security you are using.
It may not carry over to the iPhone/iPad, but you might want to try changing between WEP, WPA, and no security and see if it makes a difference.

I have set up a non secure network for the iPad and no difference.  I also tried a WEP with no difference either.  WPA was my default and what I started with.  I haven’t been kicked off yet of the non secure but lag is still present.

Kevin, what version of CasaTunes are you using?  Please make sure you try upgrading to v2.9.

I was on 2.8 and installed 2.9 today.  Same issue exist with maybe a little improvement in response to choose a source.  My i4 was kicked off the wifi during use of the app and as soon as I exit the app the wifi reconnected.

Just to update you I have installed the newest 2.9 version released yesterday with no improvement in operation.  While in the Casatunes app after a short time the wifi will turn off on my phone and I will have to exit the app and either turn the wifi back on manually or let it go into standby and it will be back when I use my phone again.  I have emailed David but I’m thinking my emails must have went into spam because I did not get a response.
