We have a customer using 3 Russound Cav 6.6.‘s and VM1’s to distribute audio and video to 16 zones.  We are testing the Casa Tunes software as a possible option to provide control for the system.  Everything is working fine but we cannot figure out a way to have the Casa Tunes software control the TV in each zone.  The TV’s do not have serial control though it may be possible to swap them out for TV’s that do.  At a minimum we would like to have the power controlled so that the TV is powered on and off when the zone is powered on and off.

thanks,

George

George, I am not sure I fully understand the situation, but it seems like you would want to use the Russound Remote, or a programmable remote, to turn the TV and Russound Zone on/off at the same time (and maybe even the Russound Source to use)?

Just as an FYI, there are ways to monitor zones turning on & off, source changing, volume changes, etc. and then triggering actions using the CasaTunes Serial API or Serial-over-IP API, but it does not seem necessary in the scenario described above.

Actually, we already have this setup to work with the hand held remotes.  what we would like to do is when we are using Casa Tunes, either on the IPAD or via in-wall touch screen web browser, have the televisions in each zone turned on and off when the zone is powered on an off.  Is your software setup to send serial commands to control other hardware?  If so, could we use a serial to IR (or even Ethernet to IR) product such as global cache to control the televisions?

We do not currently have built in support to allow you to send serial commands to control other hardware, however, using a small program and the CasaTunes Serial or Serial-over-IP API, this can be done quite easily since we do send notification messages when the system changes (like turning a zone on or off).

George,
I am not sure if this is helpful. We are looking at adding a feature to the Pronto app that executes actions in buttons in a hidden page in the CasaTunes activity. These actions can be any actions from the ProntoEdit library, including infrared codes and RS232 codes, that the dealer wants to add to the button.
So, when a user clicks to turn off CasaTunes zone 1 using the Pronto, if the dealer assigned IR commands to turn off the TV or change the TV’s input selection (or both), the CasaTunes ProntoScript would cause those commands to be executed. With the Pronto extenders, the remotes would not have to be in the same room. We are thinking of using separate buttons for on and off.

Does this sound interesting? Any suggestions would be appreciated, since we are in the planning stage. I would expect that this design could be done VERY quickly, once started.
