I am doing an install for a customer.
Setup:
Windows Home Server
CasaTunes Russound Kit
CasaTunes v2.51 (downloaded Monday) - license activated
Russound ST2 Smart Tuner
Russound CAM6.6X-S2
Russound CAM6.6 S1
Russound UNO-S2 Keypads
Russound UNO-S1 Keypads
At this time, I am bench testing the setup with the WHS, ST2 Tuner, CAM6.6Xs2, and one UNO-S2 keypad.
One note:
The CasaTunes Russound Kit came with the wrong instructions.
“Quick Start XLe Source Expansion Kit” rather than “Russound/Nuvo Install Guide”
That was not a problem as I had reviewed the Russound/Nuvo Install Guide downloaded from the web.
The customer has specified the following sources:
1. XM Radio - CAM6.6Xs2
2. AM/FM Radio - ST2 Tuner 1
3. AM/FM Radio - ST2 Tuner 2
4. Casatunes source 1 - per step 5a
5. Casatunes source 2 - per step 5b
6. DVD/CD player
I will be trying to get the customer to change source 6. to an additional Casatunes source.
The WHS has the DVD set to RIP automatically to its WMP music library.
I configured according to the instructions omitting steps 5c and 5d.
Sources 1-4 are working correctly, source 5 is not.
The keypad is showing source 5 (as named in CasaTunes) but neither the keypad nor the CasaTunes software will successfully initiate playback from source 5.
Everything else is working perfectly.
I am extremely happy with how smoothly the install went and the tightness of the integration with the Russound system.
I look forward to resolving this issue.
I sent this issue to the support email with a copy of the diag file.

Good Morning, Bob.
I apologize for the wrong manual. We will put procedures in place to reduce the possibility of this happening again, but I am glad you found the correct manual on the site.

Regarding the Source 5 problem, I am setting up our Home Server to simulate the problem. In the meantime, there are a few quick things you can check, if you haven’t already:

-Go to the Sound Window (in Control Panel) and make sure that the sound card is set up as a 7.1 sound device.

-In CasaTunes setup, in sources tab, make sure you have “Speakers 3&4, (Rear Surrounds)” for Speakers to use, “CasaTunes Player” for Type of Source and “Speakers (SB Au….” for Audio Device to use.

It will take us a little while to reconfigure the Home Server here. I will post again as soon as we have simulated your problem.

Kim,

Thank you for your quick response.  Much appreciated.

I verified that the sound card was set up as 7.1.

I verified that the source is set up according to the specification above.

Also, the type 2 audio cable is plugged into the black jack on the sound card.
The yellow connector is plugged into the right channel on the CAM6.6
The white connector is plugged into the left channel
The red connector is plugged into nothing.

Found the problem:
-Stop the CasaTunes service by going to Start|All Programs|CasaTunes and running “Diagnostics”. Click on “Stop Service”.
-Using Windows Explorer (right click on Start and pick “explore”), go to C:\program files\casatools\casatunes2 folder (assumes C: is the system drive letter).
-Open CasaTunesSvc.exe.config with Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
-Find:
  <add key=“OverrideSpeakerCount” value=“false”>
and change it to:
  <add key=“OverrideSpeakerCount” value=“true”>
-Save the file and close Notepad.
-Click on “Start Services” in CasaTunes Diagnostics.

This should fix the problem. We see this with certain operating systems and audio cards. I will update the installation guide to show this for the Russound/NuVo Kit audio card with Home Server and Server 2003.
Let me know if this fixes the problem.
